Alan Hanlon continued his fine form with a hugely impressive performance in the Galway Masters last Sunday in Mellows in the city of Galway. Alan, who recently won Custume Scratch Cup, delivered an opening 47 in arguably his favourite course in the country. He followed this up with an astonishing twelve under par 42!! Normally 19 under par would be good enough to lead in any scratch cup in this tough rugged links course that is famous throughout the country, but on this occasion, Custume’s Martin Kenny had shot an incredible 87 to lead by two shots.

Alan began the last round well and reduced the lead to one shot on a couple of occasions but Kenny was not to be denied. Martin found some late birdies to make his win comfortable enough in the end. But Alan, as always the entertainer, saved one of his best shots of the day for last. A wayward pitch on the difficult 18th left him with an intimidating chip, but Alan made it look easy by almost chipping in. His par secured third place and a very respectable finish for the Collinstown man.
