PRO’s Weekly Report – 15th June 2009

OPEN STROKEPLAY.

From 10 am on Friday morning last the 12th until last card at 5pm on Sunday evening the 14th we held our Annual Open Strokeplay. It is one of the remaining Strokeplays left in this region and more is the pity I say. Play was slow on Friday & Saturday but picked up very well on Sunday with a steady stream of players all day. We were blessed with the weather and avoided most of the heavy showers with the exception of a Thunder shower on Saturday evening at about 5:30 p.m. The course was in good condition but the greens were lightning fast and tricky enough to negotiate, still plenty were able to manage it as there were some very good scores. This is the first year that people could play as many rounds as they wanted and this proved to be a great success as some people played up to 14 rounds. The following is a full list of the winners:-

Hole – in – One Prize   Alan Gallagher, Cement.

The  course was in great condition thanks to our wonderful groundskeepers and especially to Colm who was on hand each morning to mow the greens before play. Thanks to all who helped at the desk and in the Kitchen especially to Liz who did trojan work at the desk on Sunday and making up the scores which is no joke and to all who helped her. Thanks to Mary and the ladies who worked hard in the kitchen.

It was great to see Donie Weldon up for the presentation of prizes still as interested and enthusiastic as ever. Well done Donie.

In conjunction with the Open we ran a raffle and had eleven prizes donated by our members ranging from bottles of whiskey, brandy, chocolates wine etc.  The following were the winners: Mags Carter (Collinstown),  Michael McCormack (granard), Brian Caffrey (Collinstown),  Watty Kenny (Collinstown), Alan McGinn (Collinstown), Michael Flynn (Collinstown), Michael Corrigan (Trim), Tom Davitt (Collinstown),  John Flanagan (Collinstown),  Peter McGarry (Granard) and finally Darragh Carter (Collinstown). Thanks to Moira Nugent whose brainchild the raffle was and who did trojan work trying to get the last euro out of everyone that passed the gate. Fair play to you Moira.

LEAGUES.

The Leagues continue on Tuesday evening next and the venue is Collinstown. We have 4 teams in same two of which are doing very well.

PADDY BARDON SHIELD.

This competition is in its 3rd week and play continues on Weds. evening next with competition at 6.30 p.m.

SEAN COYNE MEMORIAL

The 2nd leg of the above competition takes place on Saturday next at 2p.m. in Gaeil Colmlcillle in Kells. We have a narrow leading margin going into the 2nd leg but Kells have home advantage and this counts for a lot. We hope for a big turnout of our club members at same as we need all and especially the ladies.

SYMPATHY

Finally we sympathise with our Chairman and Gents Captain Des and  Martin Carter on the sudden and untimely death of  a young cousin of theirs on Sunday. Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
