PRO’s Weekly Report – 2nd August 2010

PADDY BARDON SHIELD.

The final of the above competition took place on Tuesday evening last the 27th July. The two teams who made it to the final were Peter Dolan, Liam Hetherton and Paddy Smyth and Watty Kenny, Anne Kelly & Paul Byrne. The format of this competition is a 3 ball Scramble followed by 18 holes singles matchplay and 18 holes doubles matchplay. The Scramble was first up and Peter Dolan’s team set a blistering pace of 16 gross which was unbeatable. In the Singles matchplay Anne Kelly was pitted against Paddy Smyth. Anne was giving 3 shots to Paddy and this was a tall order as Paddy was playing very well and would be very hard to beat without any shots. It proved to be a bridge too far and Paddy won out at the 14th hole. At this stage the doubles match was going in the other direction with Watty and Paul 2 up against Liam and Peter but as  Peter’s team had won 2 matches at this stage there was no point in continuing as the outcome was known at this stage. It was a very enjoyable game and unfortunately there has to be losers as well as winners.

Thanks to anyone who came along on the night to lend their support.   Ena had a lovely cuppa and goodies afterwards. Michael Flynn presented the prizes in absence of our Chairman and other committee members who were unavoidably absent.

Once again the course was in great condition and thanks to our grounds staff who do a great job. To Sean and Colm and anyone else who lend a hand thank you.

LEINSTER INTER-COUNTIES.

It’s that time of year again, can you believe it. Yes Sunday next sees the Leinster Inter-Counties which will be held in Lucan. Our club is represented on the Gents team by Larry McGinn and Michael Buckley and the Ladies team by Liz Quinn and Anne Kelly and we wish them and the other members of both teams all the best for Sunday.

GENTS NATIONAL STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

We had a number of competitors in the above championships held at Ryston on the 24th & 25th July. The one who succeeded best was Stuart Tarleton in the Junior Gents. He scored 7 under par to make it to the final 8 and had a creditable performance to finish in 5th place overall which was a great achievement for this young man at national level. I am sure we will see a lot more from this young star in the weeks and months ahead.

Others taking part were Martin Carter, John Browne and John McDonald.   Well done to all for keeping the Collinstown flag flying.
